Ballanheim

Brand identity
06/2024

Ballanheim is a Berlin-based upcoming clothing brand created by Andrew Ballantyne. The brand's aesthetic is inspired by, blending the essence of Scottish heritage with the boldness of Berlin's techno culture.
The collection seeks to provide club goers with sexy, practical uniforms that transition seamlessly from nightlife to daily life. In this case study, we will walk through the creation of its defining brand identity and visual character.

A common denominator
Inspired by Scottish traditional tartan patterns, I decided to establish a unique shape that would define the base of the custom typeface. Tartans are renowned for their straight lines, which result in seamless squares with precise 90º angles.

Therefore, I defined a square as the root for all the characters, that with little tweaks, would result in the creation of each individual letter.

Logotype

With each character defined, we can now create a cohesive typeface. I decided to create versions of the logo, one with the characters stacked; and another in landscape, better suited for larger supports.
